Jean-Francois Houle’s Departure from Laval Rocket for NCAA Position at Clarkson 3021t

Jean-Francois Houle has made the decision to depart from his role at Laval Rocket to take on a new position within the NCAA at Clarkson University.

The Rocket and Houle mutually agreed to end their association, allowing him to return to his alma mater to coach the men’s hockey program at Clarkson University in Potsdam, New York.

This decision comes after Houle’s significant contribution to the development of the Rocket’s culture and players during his tenure as head coach.

The announcement of Houle’s departure from the Laval Rocket and his subsequent appointment as the head coach of Clarkson University’s men’s hockey team has garnered attention and marks a significant transition in his coaching career.

This move follows Houle’s successful three-year stint with the Rocket, during which the team achieved notable milestones, including a Calder Cup semifinal appearance in 2021-2022.

“It’s definitely not an easy decision. I am very grateful to the Montreal Canadiens for giving the university the opportunity to me.” Houle said.

“Everything happened quickly. For me, this is a very important position. I played hockey here for four years. I was an assistant coach for seven years.

“It’s a place that was important to me, so it’s another challenge that awaits me.” Houle added.

Houle was a member of Clarkson University’s hockey team from 1993 to 1997 and served as the team captain in its final NCAA season.

Following his retirement as a player in 2002, he came back to Clarkson University as an assistant coach and remained in that role from 2003 to 2010.

“Every path to being an instructor is different. Mine is different from many. I have been an instructor in different leagues in North America.” Houle said.

“I have a great sense of belonging with the university where I played, it’s something special for people who go to universities in the United States.” he added.

Despite the perception of this move as a potential step backward in his NHL aspirations, Houle is confident that it will not hinder his future career prospects.
