Pink Spiders have twice destroyed Megawati Hangestri Pertiwi and Red Sparks’ big dreams in the South Korean volleyball league since last season.
Pink Spiders became the team that made Red Sparks fail to continue their winning streak. Red Sparks’ 2-3 defeat to Pink Spiders stopped Megawati and her friends’ winning streak at 13.
Red Sparks also failed to match or sur the longest winning streak in the Korean volleyball league which belongs to Hillstate with 15 matches.
Kim Yeon-koung and Anilis Peach were the deciding factors for Pink Spiders when they stopped Red Sparks’ winning streak in the last match of the fourth round of the Korean Volleyball League.
Pink Spiders stopped Red Sparks’ winning streak at 13. This happened after Pink Spiders won with a narrow score of 3-2 (25-21,26-28, 15-25, 25-15, 15-9).
Peach contributed the most points for the Pink Spiders with 22 points and an average block of 1.2. Meanwhile, Yeon-koung became the second most productive player in the Pink Spiders camp with 18 points.
However, the record of 13 consecutive wins is a record for the Red Sparks who previously only managed to score eight consecutive wins in the 2008/2009 season.
Before stopping the Red Sparks’ winning streak, last season the Pink Spiders also stopped another big dream of the Daejeon team to enter the final match for the championship.
In the playoffs last season, the Red Sparks lost 1-2 to the Pink Spiders and failed to advance to the final match against Hillstate. With this failure, Ko Hee Jin’s team had to be satisfied with the title of third place.
The Red Sparks’ participation in the playoffs towards the championship title last season was the first since they last participated in the playoffs seven years ago in 2016/2017.
Despite the two big dreams of the Red Sparks being crushed by the Pink Spiders, the two teams will meet in two regular-season matches this season.
The closest meeting between the Red Sparks and the Pink Spiders will take place on Sunday (2/2/2025) at the Incheon Samsan World Gymnasium at 16:00 local time.
