Carlos Alcaraz has expressed his feelings about his performance after losing to David Goffin at the Miami Open. He honestly talked about what he thought went wrong and how he felt about the match.
Goffin, who wasn’t expected to win, shocked everyone by defeating Alcaraz in a match. The game was intense, and Goffin captured a win after three sets of 5-7, 6-4, and 6-3.
“It was a very poor performance on my part, I it it, he was a better player than me. After the first set, I think he started to play better while my level declined, even though he was already playing well.” Alcaraz said.
“I didn’t play well, and I didn’t feel good physically either. In these kinds of matches, when you don’t feel that confidence either in of tennis skills or physically, everything becomes much harder.” Alcaraz added.
Alcaraz had a chance to improve his ranking to No. 2 in the PIF ATP Ranking. This was possible if he won the Miami Open and if Alexander Zverev left the tournament early.
However, neither of these events happened, the 21-year-old Spaniard will remain in the third position in the rankings.
“Mentally, I’m screwed, honestly; this is a tournament where I want to do well, and losing in the first round hurts a lot,” Alcaraz said.
Alcraz has recorded 15 wins in 19 matches this year and has secured one singles title. It is important for him to understand and fix any issues before the most crucial phase of the season.
During this season, Alcaraz will face the significant challenge of defending his titles at the French Open and Wimbledon tournaments.
Goffin, meanwhile, spoke about how much the win meant to him and how happy it made him feel after the match.
“I played my game, and I focused on each point. Beating a player like Carlos, who is at the top of his game, is special and gives me great confidence moving forward.” Goffin said.
