Dorna Signs Deal for Future Indian Grand Prix 2b6214

In order to bring the FIM MotoGP World Championship to the Indian continent soon, Dorna Sports on Tuesday has confirmed that project has started on a possible future Indian Grand Prix.

Recently, Dorna boss Carmelo Ezpeleta travelled to India to meet with officials and prospective promoter Fairstreet Sports. The trip began at the stunning Buddh International Circuit, just outside of New Delhi, which would serve as the site of a possible MotoGP competition.

“India is a huge country, a huge market and especially important for the motorcycle industry and MotoGP as a sport.” Ezpeleta said.

“The championship has a huge fan base there and the opportunity to host a MotoGP event in India would be both an incredible spectacle for our fans and allow us to further grow the sport in the region.

“We would like to bring this project to a successful conclusion and let the MotoGP bikes race for the Indian fans.” Ezpeleta added.

The Buddh International Circuit initially hosted a race for the Formula 1 championship, however due to a strict tax system, this hasn’t happened in recent years.

Due to the fact that these events are viewed more as entertainment than as sporting events, the Formula 1 organisation was expected to pay more than $50 million in taxes. In this situation, there will undoubtedly be additional rules if a MotoGP race is held in India.

“MotoGP is a major asset thanks to the loyalty of its viewers and the competitive nature of the sport, which has already reached Nerly half a billion households worldwide.” India Sports Minister, Shri Anurqg Thakur said.

“Dorna Sports, the sole commercial and television rights holder, produces the worldwide television broadcast of each Grand Prix throughout the season, from acquisition to distribution, as part of a 360 degree event management philosophy.” Thakur added.
