Marc Marquez on Sunday started the Italian MotoGP at Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli from seventh place in the grid.

It soon became clear that a repeat from a week earlier was out of the question, as the Repsol Honda Team rider didn’t have the pace this time to follow unleashed and later winner sco Bagnaia during the race.

Yamaha rider Fabio Quartararo and the surprising Enea Bastianini were clearly too fast for the eight-time world champion in this race.

Marquez, who normally says he only goes for the win, said after the race that he was satisfied, in fact that he was very satisfied and valued this fourth place more than his hard-fought second place of a week in Aragon.

“I think this fourth place on a clockwise circuit is more important than second place last week at Motorland Aragon, a circuit that is run counterclockwise and therefore has more left-hand corners.” Marquez said.

“My goal is to fight for the win. I think I’m still missing a lot to reach this goal at the moment. So I finished fourth here, but lost 10.2 seconds to the winner.

“I had to start the race from seventh on the grid and so I made up three places. We achieved a better result than we had expected.

“After qualifying I said my position in the race, given my pace, would probably be between fifth and seventh. That’s why I’m happy with this fourth place. In the first part of the race I didn’t feel so good.” he added.

With his fourth-place finish in the race, Marquez rose from tenth to ninth in the championship standings.

The next MotoGP race is in Austin in two weeks at Circuit of the Americas, the track where the Repsol Honda Team rider has often been unbeatable in the past.
