Logan Sargeant will make his debut season with Williams Formula 1 team next season in 2023. His car will appear with a permanent number 2.
The American driver will replace Nicholas Latifi at the team. The rookie F1 driver has earned his superlicense points through his Formula 2 season.
Williams has revealed that the new driver will race with #2 as his permanent number in F1. He is the second driver to utilized the system since its intro in 2014.
The team took it to the social media for official announcement on its channel on Wednesday. It announced it with a hashtag of #LS2.
Stoffel Vandoorne used the similar number during his stint at McLaren in 2017 & 2018. However, it has not been used since then. Therefore, it was available for the Sargeant
“I used to run it in Formula Renault, and I had a pretty good season that year,” said Sargeant. “Number three is my number, but that’s taken so I figured why not take a winning number from the past and run with it in F1?”
Jost Capito, Williams team principal, had earlier revealed the possibility of the Sargeant ing the team. He had lacked superlicense points at United States GP, which he has enough of now.

The American finished the F2 championship with fourth place at the Abu Dhabi season finale. It helped him go beyond the required threshold pioints for F1.
Williams committed to Sargeant at the end of this season. It fielded the driver for four FP1 sessions. He remained onboarded in the post-race test in Abu Dhabi.
The rookie revealed the intent behind Abu Dhabi test. It was to “get comfortable in the car and really push the limit” before fully onboarded.
“In the FP1s, it’s touch and go because you need to get your 100km and you don’t have much time,” Sargeant said.
“Whereas today, I could really find the limit and get comfortable with it, as well as just really learning how I can change the car balance to my suiting just through the steering wheel.
“That’s obviously work in process, it will be for a while. But it’s a good understanding of what those tools do.”.
